Ballet 

Classical Ballet is characterised by a standard vocabulary of steps, poses, and graceful movements including pointed and flex feet, rising, jumping, stretching and turning. It is a strengthening and disciplined style of dance which consists of movements  at the barre and in the centre.

 

Hip Hop 

Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of the hip-hop culture which originated in the US. It includes a wide range of styles including Street-dance, Break-dance, tutting, locking and  popping . The class consists of  choreography in the centre and on the floor. 


Jazz and Commercial 

Jazz is influenced by pop music and can be seen in concerts and video clips for artists such as Lady Gaga and Beyoncé and movies such as Fame and Step UpCommercial dance encompasses a myriad of styles. This can include Street, Jazz, Hip-Hop and Contemporary. It is the type of dance seen in music videos, on the catwalk and at fashion shows, artist tours, TV and film etc. The class consists of travelling, centre work and technique. 


Contemporary and Lyrical 

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements focusing on parallel, turn out, extension and contraction. Lyrical  dance is another expressive style of dance which has very similar aspects to Jazz and Ballet due to its technical movements such as pirouettes, high extensions and floor work. 


Musical Theatre 

Musical Theatre is a style of dance and physical theatre that famously derived from popular Musical theatre performances showing on Broadway and the West End. The class focuses on scenes and elements from different Musicals such as Hairspray, Matilda, Grease and Chicago, learning choreography, staging, prop work and physical movement.  


Tap 

Tap dance is a style of dance performed wearing shoes fitted with metal taps characterized by rhythmical tapping of toes and heels. The class will work focus on tap steps to build on rhythms, beats, syncopated steps, repertoire and confidence. 


Cheerleading and Pom Dance 

Cheerleading and Pom Dance originate from the US and is most commonly known as a style of physical and athletic movement which consists of a group of performers cheering on a sports team. It has since evolved into its own area of discipline where participants fuse dance, gymnastics and cheer together focusing on creating specialized formations using poms, stunts which include flyers and bases and elements of dance and travel.
